The NeuroMechatronics Lab. aims to bridge the gap between current robotic and exoskeleton technologies and the human neuromuscular system. We analyse the human nervous system from a mechatronics perspective and develop technologies that mimic and enhance human motion and sensing. Our main and most important goal is to use these research and technological advances to help people suffering from mobility impairments recover their independence.

Our research interest is in technology based on thin diamond films with applications in electronics and biomedical devices. We have the ability to grow polycrystalline diamond films in large areas with different grain sizes, from ~ 6 nm to 3000 nm by hot filament CVD and microwave and plasma CVD techniques. Our work is specifically aimed at the development of diamond electrodes to improve the useful life of lithium-ion batteries, diodes and electronic TFT devices, the differentiation of stem cells through diamond scaffolding and prosthesis diamond-based.

Research in the Bugarin group focuses on catalytic reaction development with applications in natural product synthesis. Areas of fundamental interest include: the identification of new reactivity patterns, the evolution of related catalytic processes, and the development of new synthetic strategies. Specifically, we are pursuing new chemistry using azides, nucleophilic and electrophilic catalysis via N-heterocyclic carbenes, synergistic catalysis, redox economy, and metal-catalyzed tandem processes.
